Bit early to post this I know but see why Barking and Dagenham Volunteer Centre together with Barking and Dagenham Homeless Hostels joined forces with S.M.I.L.E LONDON - ESSEX.

Most of us will be looking forward to a huge Christmas dinner, time together with Family and most of loads of Presents However so many Families in the UK Chris...tmas can be a very sad and depressing times.

More families fall into financial crisis around the festive season, meaning that many children wake up with nothing from Santa.

We want all of your to help!!! Every year we organise a Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

These shoeboxes will be full of small treats for children to open on Christmas morning.

These shoeboxes will then be passed over to The Salvation Army on 1st December so they can distribute them to all the families in need, as well as immigration centres, refuges and care homes.

We are lucky enough to be supported by many local Shoe shops who donation empty shoeboxes really to be filled.

The items we are in need of are below;
Wrapped sweets, chocolates, crisps, snacks, small bottles of pop (All must be in date until Feb the following year)

Include items that children will immediately embrace such as dolls or stuffed toys, toy trucks, harmonica, yo-yo, skipping rope, ball, small puzzles etc.

-School Supplies
Pens, pencils & sharpeners, crayons or felt pens, stamps & ink pad sets, writing pads or notebooks & paper, solar calculators, colouring & picture books etc.

-Hygiene Items
Toothbrush and toothpaste, bars of wrapped soap, comb or hairbrush, flannel, deodorant, perfume and hairbands

-Other Items
Hat, cap, gloves or scarf, sunglasses, hair accessories, jewellery set, wind up torch.

Other than the treats we will need wrapping paper to cover the boxes so make them as festive looking as positive. So if you have any rolls of wrapping paper, bows or strings that will also be very helpful.

2016 was the first year we ran this appeal and we managed to fill over 1000 shoeboxes full of gifts that were giving to children throughout the borough via The Salvation Army.

If its an idea start buying the items that DONT have a use by date now.

Helps spreading the cost too.

If you wish to help on this appeal please do contact S.M.I.L.E London & Essex on 07415 141437
for local drop of points and the delivery address for the main donation hub.
